Motors TV Weekend Highlights September 10,11

It seems like only yesterday that spring was in full bloom and the racing season kicking into gear after its winter slumber, but before you know it, we’re into championship finale territory. And where better to start off your weekend than with than a three-way battle involving as many different manufacturers, live on the High Speed Television Channel?A quick look over the history books show that the British GT Championship’s annual season finale at Donington Park has a reputation for producing fireworks and this year should be little different. TF Sport Aston Martin duo Derek Johnston and Jonny Adam led the standings since round one, but a double-win last time out at Snetterton has thrust the Barwell Motorsport Lamborghini of Jon Minshaw and Phil Keen to the top of the pile. However, both will have to serve success penalties (15 and 20 seconds apiece), which could open the door for rank outsiders Rick Parfitt Jr. and Seb Morris in the big Bentley of Team Parker. All bets are off for this one and with the GT4 drivers’ title also still to be decided between Optimum Motorsport and two-time defending champions Beechdean AMR, you certainly won’t want to miss this. From four wheels to two, it’s over to Glen Helen, California, for the final round of the FIM MXGP World Championship. Newly crowned champion 19-year-old Tim Gajser made a little piece of history in Charlotte, NC, by becoming the first man since 1993 to win back-to-back world titles in different disciplines, but the battle continues to rage over second place, with Tony Cairoli and Max Nagl set to go toe-to-toe. Watch out for guesting US stars Eli Tomac and Justin Barcia too – star displays in Charlotte will have the world championship regulars hoping they don’t return for a full season in 2017…The FIA F3 European Championship may still have three weekends remaining, but that doesn’t mean there will be any less significance attached to their visit to the Nürburgring. Following the announcement that Felipe Massa will retire from F1 at the end of the season, Williams development driver and F3 championship leader Lance Stroll will be desperate to prove to the hierarchy that he merits a shot at following the path forged by Max Verstappen direct from F3 to the sport’s top table. Rookie honours are still up for grabs too, with Zandvoort F3 Masters winner Joel Eriksson, Racing Steps youngster Ben Barnicoat and Frenchman Anthoine Hubert in the frame. There’s even more F3-based action across the border in Austria, as the EuroFormula Open Championship teams up with the International GT Open series at the Red Bull Ring. Ferdinand Habsburg will hope that the home advantage pays dividends in his title battle against Leonardo Pulcini in EuroFormula Open, before a spectacular array of GT3s featuring McLaren, BMW, Ferrari, Lamborghini and Aston Martin keep the Styrian Mountains alive with the sound of awesome. If you like your racing loud, then turn up the volume and tune in for highlights of the Zandvoort Historic Grand Prix, a rare opportunity to see historic F1 cars let loose on a circuit where they once flexed their V8-powered muscles. And if that’s not enough, we have live coverage of the support cast at Donington including the BRDC British F3 race three, Ginetta GT5 Challenge and VW Racing Cup, plus highlights from the thrilling FIA World Endurance Championship 6 Hours of Mexico, the F1-supporting Porsche Supercup and the GT Asia Series from Shanghai, with one of the best photo-finishes you’ll catch all year.
