Starts At Pembrey Next Weekend
Pembrey Circuit in Wales is the venue for the opening races in the 2004 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship with Michelin next weekend, Saturday, 6th November, and it’s shaping up to be one of the most competitive grids in the series’ history.
Front-running driver Oliver Jarvis (Burwell, Cambridgeshire) is the latest star name to sign up for the Winter Championship, having agreed terms with former champion team Manor Motorsport, and he will join rapid Irishman Patrick Hogan (Killiney, Co. Dublin) and 18-year old Dutch karting sensation Bas Lammers.
Speaking on Manor’s latest signing, team manager Tony Shaw said: “Collectively, I think we’ll have one of the very strongest line-ups out there with Oliver, Paddy and Bas all set for some great performances. We’ve been really pleased with the progress of all three drivers during testing and whoever wins this championship will fully deserve it as it’s a high quality field.”
Fortec Motorsport, meanwhile, will be bidding to add the winter title to its successful entrant and driver championship campaigns of the 2004 regular season – and the team certainly stands a great chance with a solid four-car line-up.
Stuart Hall (Halstead, Essex), American driver Ben Freudenberg and Dutchman Yelmer Buurman all remain with the team from the main championship but they will also be joined by ex-British Formula A kart driver Peter Rees (Pangbourne, Berkshire) who makes his car racing debut at Pembrey.
Team JLR’s assault, meanwhile, will be led by front-running Formula Renault UK driver Stephen Simpson (Enfield, Middlesex) and 2004 Formula Ford Festival winner Daniel Clarke (Maidenhead, Berkshire).
Venezuelan teenager Rodolfo Gonzalez (Attleborough, Norfolk) is expected to go well with Mark Burdett Motorsport alongside occasional Formula Renault competitor Simon Pearson (Doncaster, South Yorkshire) and category newcomer Chris Dent (Merryoaks, Durham).
James Jakes (Cullingworth, West Yorkshire), Vice-Champion in this year’s inaugural ‘Graduate Cup’, returns with his family-owned Team aka outfit and it’s also expected the operation will field a second car for a yet-to-be-determined driver.
Newly crowned BRSCC T-Car Champion Will Bratt (Adderbury, Banbury) makes his Formula Renault UK debut with the returning Scorpio Motorsport, Embassy Racing makes its series bow with driver Jody Firth (Wakefield, Yorkshire) and Dean Stirling (Shamley Green, Surrey) will compete with Team Nasamax.
The 2004 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship with Michelin begins at Pembrey in Wales next weekend, Saturday, 6th November, and then concludes at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire on Saturday, 13th November.
