HIGGINS READY TO FINISH THE SEASON ON A HIGH
As the Kwik Fit Pirelli British Rally Championship reaches its climax with the seasons final round, The Tempest Rally in Aldershot, leading driver for most of the season David Higgins, has just one position on his mind as he prepares for the finale. Having been deprived of a good result on the Trackrod when leading the rally with an uncharacteristic retirement, Higgins plans to put the record straight and has his sights on ending the season with a victory and the championship. The Trefeglwys driver and his regular co-driver Daniel Barritt have prepared well for the title decider, with the pair going to China to contest a round of the Chinese National series and despite retiring with gearbox problems, the pair were very encouraged by their pace. The Mitsubishi World Rally Championship Team Test driver is also in the middle of a major test for Mitsubishi, which will conclude just before the recce for the final BRC qualifier.Higgins is confident with his preparation for the rally and with the SGP Motorsport run Hyundai Accent World Rally Car being prepared to the highest standard, he will be the in form driver to beat."To retire on the Trackrod was devastating, but our preparation along with SGP should put us as favourites for the title. We have had some misfortune all year and still we are in a very good position. There's only one other driver who can beat us, but we know we have the upper hand on gravel over him. While we just need to be the front running BRC contender, I will be looking to take the win on the final round."While the Welsh based Manx man has struggled all year with the budget for the season, he has been boosted for the finale with some additional support."We have been supported on the latter rounds by Mick O'Brien Plant Hire and for the final round we have the added partnership from Jardine Lloyd Thompson and without their support it would have been very difficult to end the season. Needless to say all our corporate partners have played a very influential role in our position in the series, so we just need the final push to make it worthwhile all round."
The Tempest Rally starts on Friday 5th November with several evening stages before a full day of motorsport on Saturday to test the competition and confirm the winner of the Kwik-Fit/Pirelli British Rally Championship.
