Spedeworth Southern brought the all-action Stock Cars to Wimbledon Stadium on October 31st to settle their European Championship. With a line up of star drivers all determined to lift the trophy the scene was set for a no-holds barred race.
The action was intense from the second the green flag waved with the drivers putting the bumper in at every opportunity as they attempted to power their way through the pack. A massive pile up on the pit bend brought out the red flags for a driver in potential danger.
On the restart the drivers once again put the pedal very firmly to the metal and the ironwork very firmly into the opposition. So intense was the action that no less than 4 cars were rolled over in one section of the home straight within seconds of each other, bringing out the red flags for another stoppage.
With the cars back under starters orders the race continued to deliver full on action as194, Steve Anscombe stormed into the lead. Anscombe was taken out of the race and left wrecked on the safety fence by 116 Diggy Smith, who was involved earlier in a controversial incident with track officials during one of the race stoppages.
Smith held onto his lead well and despite determined challenges, powered his armoured Stock Car over the line to take the trophy and European Champion title for 2004. He was followed home by 392, Julian Smith and 29, George Morphy.
