MG ZR - Two bites of the cherry

MG ZR competitors are in for a thrilling season in 2005 with the announcement of a One-make Championship and Manufacturer Bonus Scheme.

Orchestrated by Creative Media Communications, the team behind the extremely successful MG XPOWER Rally Scholarship project, the 2005 competitions will cater for 1400 and 1800 MG ZR cars, each in their own events.

Running in parallel with the British Rally Championship, the two competitions have attracted a massive prize fund to include the use of two works prepared MGs for the following season and event-by-event prizes worth a further £20,000.

To encourage new competitors into the brand CMCL are also offering works prepared ready-built cars at discounts of over 30% to the first five competitors to join the 1400 scheme.

Teams will compete on stages of the Welsh, Pirelli, Scottish, Jim Clark, Swansea Bay, Trackrod and Tempest rallies.

The Group N cars have achieved great results to date, with works driver Gwyndaf Evans finishing in the top 25 of the Wales Rally GB and ITV F1 pundit Tony Jardine achieving numerous class wins during the past season.

The MG ZR 1400 further enhanced its credibility at the weekend when Gwyndaf not only won his class but finished 17th overall in the Tempest International Rally, beating all of the more powerful F2000 entries as well as many Production and Open class cars.

Head of motorsport within MG Sport & Racing, Brian Griffin, said: “The 2004 Scholarship has been a great success for MG and proved the reliability of both the 1400 and 1800 models to be beyond reproach, therefore we feel the natural move forward into one-make rallying will provide an exciting platform for competitors and spectators alike.”
