After careful consideration involving fan input, the event promoter, television partner and sponsors, the American Le Mans Series has decided to make a minor adjustment to its 2005 schedule.
Resulting from cooperation between the event organizer and supports series, the ALMS has changed the date of the event at Mosport International Raceway near Toronto from August 26-28 to September 2-4 in order to provide the best possible package of racing, headlined by the ALMS and involving the SCCA SPEED World Challenge. The ALMS race will continue to be televised live by SPEED Channel across North America and on MotorsTV in Europe.
"The American Le Mans Series decided to make this change to further strengthen our annual event at Mosport International Raceway," said Scott Atherton, President and CEO of the American Le Mans Series. "With a small modification to the series schedule, the American Le Mans Series will provide Mosport fans another incredible weekend of the world's best sports car racing. We have enjoyed record crowds the last two years at Mosport and this adjustment is a testament of the American Le Mans Series' continued commitment of truly being 'for the fans.'"
Mosport International Raceway and its fans will benefit from the schedule change as both classes of the SPEED World Challenge will now have the opportunity to take part in the event and bring a full weekend of professional sports car racing to Canadian fans.
"The American Le Mans Series continues to thrill our fan base year after year," said Myles Brandt, President and General Manager of Mosport International Raceway. "We are very happy about the SPEED World Challenge returning to Mosport in 2005, which will again make the American Le Mans Series weekend our biggest of the year on our new Labor Day weekend date. Our fans wanted both series back and made this known to us. We are pleased that the American Le Mans Series is able to accommodate this change and we look forward to another action-filled and entertaining weekend for Mosport fans."
