RML announced today that they will enter the 2005 Le Mans Endurance Seriesand the 24 Heures du Mans with the MG Lola backed by the AD Group. Theexisting MG EX257 will undergo an up-grade programme during the winter andwill enter the series in the LMP2 category. Mike Newton and Tommy Erdoswill complete the driver line up for the series and, entry dependant, theteam will recruit a third driver for the 24 Heures du Mans.
RML are working closely with MG and Lola to finalise the aerodynamic andsafety up-grade package for the car. Through MG's association with EngineDevelopments the car will be fitted with a Judd developed 3.4 litre XV V8engine. Although the exact chassis designation has not been finalised thecar will run as an MG Lola and will be liveried similar to this years LMP1challenger.
Drivers Mike Newton and Tommy Erdos have gained a wealth of experience inthe MG having contested this years' LMES and 24 Heures du Mans. Some verystrong and competitive performances convinced owner/driver Mike thatprototypes were to be his main focus in 2005 and the increased profile ofthe LMES championship added strength to his decision.
Mike Newton commented "Having contested both the LMES and the FIA GTChampionship this year we decided to concentrate our efforts on theprototype. The way things are taking shape I think LMP2 is the place to benext year".
RML ran the MG Lola EX257 to 5th place in the Le Mans Endurance Seriesstandings this year and recorded the cars' endurance record at Le Manscompleting over 20 hours of the 24 hour race.
Ray Mallock commented "We are pleased to be continuing our sportscarprogramme with the AD Group. This will be our second full season insportscar prototypes and we see it as an important stepping stone toachieving our aim of winning at Le Mans".
