Gornall Set To Become Formula Renault UK's Answer To David Beckham!

Formula Renault UK Championship with Michelin competitor James Gornall (Werrington, Peterborough) is all set to become the category’s answer to England footballer David Beckham after winning a competition to become the ‘face’ of The Real Shaving Company.

The 20-year old, who made his full-season Formula Renault UK debut with JA Motorsport this year, was entered by his father Ian into a competition in his local newspaper, the Peterborough Evening Telegraph, which aimed to find a model for The Real Shaving Company’s national advertising campaign in 2005.

James beat 12 other finalists to scoop the prize of a year’s modeling contract with DK Model Management, a photographic portfolio courtesy of top fashion photographer Deborah Stone and the opportunity to be featured across The Real Shaving Company’s advertisements in magazines and in leading high-street retailers such as Boots and Tesco.

Having hit budgetary problems during the mid-way point of the season, Gornall and JA Motorsport – the team with which he won the 2003 BARC Formula Renault series - were forced to withdraw from Formula Renault UK but he hopes his new role as a model for The Real Shaving Company will offer the boost needed to help sponsorship negotiations ahead of the 2005 season.

Speaking on his new role as the ‘face’ of The Real Shaving Company, Gornall said: “It’s a huge shock. My dad entered me into the competition and only told me days before I got a call to say I was in the final. I really enjoyed the evening and am now looking forward to what will be an exciting and quite new experience.

“After winning the BARC Formula Renault Championship in 2003, this year was a bit disappointing. Due to sponsor and budgetary problems we were not able to complete my first, full Formula Renault UK Championship season but I do feel I was noticed in the paddock. I certainly should be now with a modeling contract!

“I want to be back on the grid in 2005 and make a very real challenge. I truly believe I am capable of winning but budget is the problem – we are working very hard with some great people who are committed to getting me there.”
