New South West based race team to compete in top national race series for 2005
Exeter based Rogers Racing has announced that the team will be entering the 2005 Pickup Truck Championship. The series will be contested over 20 rounds, with 12 at Rockingham Motor speedway, Corby and the further rounds on road circuits to include Mallory Park, Thruxton and Brands Hatch.
The team has been set up by the brother partnership of Lee and Dean Rogers from their base in Devon. The driving seat will be occupied by Lee who has many years experience in short oval racing both locally and nationally. Lee is a Hot Rod multiple points and county champion with Autospeed and Mendips and more recently was the 2004 Autospeed Stock Rods points’ championship runner up. Dean has been involved more recently with the occasional outing in his 2 litre Saloon Stock Cars and will continue to do so when time permits as his main duties will be with the promotional and marketing side of ROGERS RACING along with being the team ‘spotter’ on race days.
The team supports a locally based charity, DREAM-A-WAY. Dream-a-way raises money and organise day trips and holidays for disabled children and adults.
"We feel that this race series offers enthralling racing for the spectators, value for money with a level playing field for the teams and a huge marketing opportunity for our sponsors and our supported charity, Dream-A-Away. The full season of racing from Rockingham Motor speedway will also be covered by Channel 4 over twelve ½ hour shows".
Pickup Race Truck to be at top westcountry ‘Banger Meeting’
The ROGERS RACING Pickup truck will be on show this Sunday at Smeatharpe Stadium near Honiton (meeting starts at 1.00pm) where Autospeed will be staging the ‘2 litre Bangers £500 winter open’.
"Autospeed having kindly offered us the opportunity to show the truck and to carry out a few demonstration laps on the 300 metre circuit at Smeatharpe. This should be an interesting experience for our driver, Lee Rogers, as although he has been a multiple champion with the Hot Rods at this track, the race truck is actually designed to run at a average speed of 130mph on the 1.5 mile oval at Rockingham.
We hope that the Dream-A-Away Chairman (Mr Jeff Merrett) and Press Officer (Mrs Norma Foster) will also be able to attend to get their first glimpse of the ROGERS RACING/DREAM-A-AWAY race truck".
