Scott & Allen join BARC Club Class

Sussex racing driver David Scott (Heathfield) will step up to the Formula Renault BARC Championship this year having previously enjoyed title success in the 600cc class of the Formula Honda Championship.

The 21-year old, who will compete with his own DS Motorsport team, will race as part of the Club Class for pre-2000 engineered cars and if all goes well he aims to step up to the FR 2000 Class with a new car in 2006.

Having begun karting at the age of 12 and winning several club-level championships, Scott moved into Formula Honda in 2002 where he finished fourth overall in the standings. The following season he became champion of the 600cc class, winning nine races from 10 outings, and now Scott hopes to enjoy similar success in Formula Renault BARC.

“We’ll see where we go this year”, he commented. “The funds are in place for us to perhaps continue in Formula Renault BARC next season, running ourselves again but in the FR 2000 Class with a new car. Then we could step up to the full Formula Renault UK Championship in 2007 if it’s viable and if things have progressed as we hope they will.

“I’d also consider a switch to saloon car racing in the future but first we’ll see what this season in BARC brings. I’m looking forward to an exciting year and we’re confident of some good results and to continue the same kind of performance we did in Formula Honda.”

Race novice Allen chooses Formula Renault BARC

Total racing novice Bill Allen (Hungerford, Berkshire), meanwhile, has selected the Formula Renault BARC Championship as his first experience of motorsport, having purchased Nicky Wilson’s 2004 title-winning car.

The 38-year old, who will compete in the Club Class alongside the likes of David Scott, has always been a keen follower of motorsport but has never taken the plunge into trying his hand at racing – until now that is.

Allen commented: “I’ve always followed motorsport since childhood and it’s always been something I’ve wanted to be a part of. So I took the decision it was now or never if I was going to try my hand at competitive racing.

“The affordability of Formula Renault BARC was the major reason for me deciding to do this championship. I had looked at other series but I wanted to own my own car in a well-run category and this was certainly the cheapest way of doing that in a quality single-seater.

“I have a test lined up at Silverstone in a couple of weeks, which will be my first ever go in the car, so I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully I’ll be able to get some help from Nicky Wilson as I bought the car from him!”
