HRCR links up with clubman stage rallies

The Historic Rally Car Register has linked up with two regional stage rally championships to allow owners of historic rally cars to compete on club level events. The initiative is aimed at those making a start in historic rallying and those unable to commit to the British Historic Rally Championship. The Historic Rally Car Register has worked with the Cotswold Motor Sport Group and the Association of North Western Car Clubs to allow all categories of historic rally cars to compete in two regional stage rally championships.Classes for all three historic categories will be run within the two championships, catering for cars from the mid-60s through to 1981. The HRCR will supply end of year trophies for the historic (pre '67), post-historic ('67 to '75) and classic ('75 to '81) cars."The British Historic Rally Championship is booming, but we recognised that there are competitors out there who may not have the time, resources, or experience to compete in the BHRC," explained an HRCR spokesman. "This move will allow people to compete on good quality club rallies in historic cars. Some may continue to compete at this level; others may then wish to step up to the BHRC in future years."The Cotswold MSG/HRCR and the ANWCC/HRCR Clubman Stage Rally Challenges will cover more than 30 events in total, with a geographic spread from the West Country, through the Midlands and up into North Wales and the North West. "With the inclusion of the classic category into historic rallying, more traditional clubmans' cars are now potentially eligible for historics," added the spokesman. "Sunbeams, Mk2 Escorts, Toyotas and TR7 V8s are all appearing in the classic category. This new initiative will continue to widen the appeal of historic rallying, both for those with previous experience and those making a start in the sport."Among those intending to take advantage of this arrangement is Richard Hudson-Evans, who plans to enter his freshly rebuilt Porsche 911 in selected Cotswold events.
