Jackson Chooses BARC

Lincolnshire 18-year old Cameron Jackson (Scampton) has signed a deal with WL Racing to contest the 2005 Formula Renault BARC Championship as he bids to begin a successful career and follow in the wheel-tracks of his brother, Formula BMW competitor Dominik.

Cameron, who has previously competed in the ranks of junior and senior Rotax karting at British Championship level, makes his first step into car racing this season and having looked at the variety of options available, he declared Formula Renault BARC as the only real choice.

“We looked at the BARC series and see it as an affordable championship with very good cars”, commented Jackson. “Some of the other championships weren’t very impressive or the car wasn’t as good so we feel we’ve made the best decision in coming to race in BARC.

“If everything goes well for me the BARC series will form a good basis on which to build my career and it will be a good learning curve. If I can go well in a Formula Renault it will benefit me when I try to move up the motorsport ladder.

“Formula Renault BARC gets good coverage and with the FR 2.0 cars now allowed in the series, and Renault UK’s increased involvement, it will only boost this further. I tested back-to-back with my brother (Dominik) in the wet at Silverstone and our times were very similar so I’m confident and hope to do well. We certainly aim to battle for race wins from the off.”

Sleaford-based WL Racing, run by Wally Liles, will also be in its maiden season of Formula Renault BARC but the team is as confident as its young driver in achieving success early in the year in the Club Class of the cost-effective ‘slicks-and-wings’ category.

Cameron’s sibling Dominik, meanwhile, is an established front-runner in the German Formula BMW Championship and finished fifth overall in the driver standings in 2004.

The 12-round 2005 Formula Renault BARC Championship begins at the home of the British Grand Prix, Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, on Saturday, 16th April.
