Jones aims for Wydean top ten

Following a text book result on the recent 2005 Red Kite Stages, reigning Peugeot 206 Super Cup and Welsh National Champion Stuart Jones will be looking for a similar result in the forthcoming Wyedean Forest Rally on Saturday 12th February.

Jones along with new co-driver, Ross Butler put in a strong performance to claim second place on the Red Kite Stages with minimum mileage in the car before hand. The result giving nineteen year old driver an added boost ahead of the Wyedean Forest rally.

"It was an encouraging result having not tested the car properly before hand, we would have settled for any result with the new car and with Ross new to the team. We settled in well and cant wait to get back into the forests again."

The Welshpool driver and his Burgess Hill co-driver will use their Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII as they contest the Chepstow based event as part of the teams preparations for their assault on the Mitsubishi Ralliart Evolution Challenge 2005. The event will have over thirty cars competing in the Group N production class alone, so will give a good indication to the team of what the pace will be like in the one make series when it commences with the Rallye Sunseeker on 25th/26th February.

"Thirty cars in our class and nearly half of those being similar Mitsubishi's, some of which will also be doing the Mitsubishi Ralliart Evolution Challenge, we will be able to compare times with the others to see where our competition will be in the series."

While Jones has only done one event in the new machine, he feels confident he will be able to challenge for the lead in the class and will be pushing for a good overall position.

“The Red Kite result put us in a good positive frame of mind for the Wyedean. IWe know we can finish inside the top ten overall, but would like to be aiming at the top half and inside the top five.”

The Wyedean commences on Saturday morning with a short spectator stage within Chepstow Racecourse before heading into the Forest of Dean with nine stages in total before returning to the Finish in Chepstow.

Stuart and Ross are supported on the Wyedean Forest Rally by Mick Jones Timber, Silverstone Tyres, Gsport UK and Rallytech.com.
