The reigning World Superstox Champion, Paul Poulter, will contest the 2005 Pickup Truck Championship.
Thirty two year old Poulter from Bookham in Surrey confirmed today that he has quit Superstox having had his most successful season to date and having sold his car. “I’ve achieved all my goals in Superstox racing,” says Paul. “My ambition was to win the world final. We did that. We also won the British Championship and were second in the other big trophy races.”
Pickup Truck Racing boss Sonny Howard said “This is what Pickup Truck racing is all about. We welcome the very best drivers from other areas of motorsport and there’s no question about Paul’s credentials. He knows it will be a big challenge but of course that’s exactly what he’s looking for.”
Paul Poulter started racing on the small ovals at the age of ten in Ministox. He graduated to Superstox in 1993 and won the European Championship at Wimbledon in 1995. He added the British title (at Ballymena) to his tally later the same year before moving onto the circuits with a limited campaign in Eurocar in 1996 but taking a race win at Mallory Park. In 1997 he tried his hand at Pickup Truck racing for the first time, winning at Baarlo Superspeedway in Holland.
Paul’s return to Superstox culminated with him winning last season’s World and British titles.
