Anderson Begins Formula Renault Career

Berkshire teenager Jack Anderson (Newbury) is to achieve his dream of beginning a stellar career in single-seater racing after confirming he’ll take part in the FR2000 Class of the 2005 Formula Renault BARC Championship in an ex-Team JVA car.

The 17-year old, who contested six rounds of last year’s ELF Renault Clio Cup in the ‘Will Hoy Hard Charger’ car as a late-season replacement for original scholarship winner Daryl McDonald, has always had a preference for single-seaters and is hoping his first experience of ‘slicks and wings’ in the BARC series will be a successful one.

Speaking ahead of his single-seater debut, Anderson commented: “After my years in karting and the experience I gained there the preference, for me, was always for single-seater racing. The Clio Cup opportunity last year was fantastic and I really enjoyed it but this is the route we always wanted to take.

“The BARC series has a bit of everything and this led to us taking the decision to run in the championship. It would have been a bit too soon for me to go into the full Formula Renault UK Championship, plus the budget in BARC is highly cost-effective and yet we’re still able to race in the current FR 2.0 car.

“Our plan is to do a year in Formula Renault BARC and if all goes well and we seem to be making progress in the championship, then we’re hoping to step-up to Formula Renault UK in 2006.”

Anderson will be run in BARC by category debutant Team Griffin Racing, the Coventry-based outfit having begun its association with the teenager last season when preparing the ‘Will Hoy Hard Charger’ Clio Cup car.

“We’re looking forward to our first season in single-seaters and I’m confident Jack will be successful in the BARC series”, said team owner Julian Griffin. “He’s a good young driver and this style of racing suits him far more than the Clio did. As our first foray into single-seaters, it’ll be very much a learning curve but we’re confident of success.”
