While waiting for Superfund to put the finishing touches on the Formula Superfund program, GP racing has decided to participate in the Le Mans Endurance series as well
This international championship includes 5 1000 km races. GP Racing will be competing with the Promec prototype: the PJ199. This prototype has the Judd V10 engine with 750 Hp in 12 000 revs.
This isn’t the Venetian team’s first experience with prototypes and endurance races. In 2004, GP racing managed the Lucchini SR2 driven by Ernesto & Massimo Saccomanno in the 6 hours of Vallelunga Gold Cup. GP Racing was first in their category.
GP Racing has already reached an agreement with Alex Caffi - one of the three drivers that will make up the crew. Alex Caffi has international experience, he participated in Formula One from 1986 to 1991 and is a specialist in touring and prototype cars.
GP Racing is negotiating with 2 other important drivers: Gabriele Gardel - the vice champion of the FIA GT championship that raced with the Ferrari 550 Maranello and Fabrizio Del Monte that competed with GP Racing last year in the Superfund Euro 3000 championship and finished in 2nd place.
Tancredi Pagiaro, Team Director GP Racing
We have decided to take part in this championship because it is very challenging. We will be managing a very demanding car that I’m sure will bring us a lot of satisfaction throughout the season. Participating in this championship will not in any way stand in the way of our participation in the Formula Superfund Series. We currently do not know what the program is and while we wait for more info, we decided to face this adventure. We are going to participate in 5 endurance races but we’re not going to participate in the 24 hours of Le Mans so we can optimize our resources.
We will also have the official support of a tyre company. I’m very satisfied with the agreement we made with Alex Caffi. I think that he is a fast driver with undisputed experience. We are working hard to put together a very competitive crew.
Gianfranco Trombetti, Promec Engineering
“Promec Engineering is going to be very involved in the Italian prototype championship in the 2005 season. We have decided to give the PJ199 car to GP Racing because of the relationship they have with us and because they have proven in the last few years to be very professional and very competent. We have moreover provided GP Racing with 3 Promec technicians: Giuseppe Angiulli (engineer), Sergio Paparoni (designer), Davide Meandri (technician) who contributed to the creation of PJ199.
