Brian Thomas honoured by BHRC

Competitors in the Armajaro MSA British Historic Rally Championship have demonstrated their gratitude to Brian Thomas, who has recently stepped down as championship co-ordinator for the Historic Rally Car Register. Donations from competitors mean that Brian and his wife will have the chance of holidays in the Gambia and Tenerife over the next two years! The presentation was made by 2004 post-historic champion Steven Smith during the HRCR annual dinner dance and awards evening on Saturday 12 February."The competitors wanted to present Brian with something in recognition of all the hours he has invested in our sport," said Smith. "Brian and his team have done a brilliant job of running the BHRC in recent years. The championship atmosphere is both professional and friendly which, in large part, is due to his quiet but effective way of handling matters."The holidays have been made available through the generosity of Neil Calvert and Arlene Cookson, who run 'Sunseekers' in Tenerife and Martin Freestone who runs the Koluli complex in the Gambia. Donations from other competitors will provide the flights.Brian took over running the BHRC five years ago, initially on a temporary basis! During that time, it has grown into one of the most successful stage rally championships in Britain. He will not, however, be leaving historic rallying, as he now plans to return to co-driving on a range of historic rallies. The new BHRC co-ordinator is Dave Lucas, who will make his debut in the post on the opening event of the 2005 season, the Robin Hood Forest Stages in March.
