Official Formula Renault UK Championship with Michelin testing resumed at Snetterton Circuit in Norfolk today with Fortec Motorsport’s Sebastian Hohenthal once again hogging the top of the timesheets.
The Swedish driver, who set a new outright Formula Renault UK lap record at the circuit three weeks ago during the opening test of the pre-season, achieved a best time of 1m 05.148 seconds (107.86mph) today, beating team-mate Stuart Hall (Halstead, Essex) by almost three 10ths of a second.
Team AKA enjoyed a successful day with James Jakes (Leeds) taking third position with a best lap of 1m 05.527 seconds, four 100ths of a second quicker than Swedish team-mate Alex Storckenfeldt.
Stephen Simpson (Enfield, Middlesex) set the fifth fastest time for Team JLR, Manor Motorsport’s Oliver Jarvis (Burwell, Cambridgeshire) was sixth overall and team-mate Patrick Hogan ended the test in seventh position.
Dutchman Yelmer Buurman was eighth quickest with a time of 1m 05.801 seconds, just over a 10th of a second faster than Manor’s Cheng Congfu in ninth position, while Team Firstair’s Canadian driver Sean McIntosh ended the test in 10th place.
Welch Motorsport’s Jeremy Metcalfe (Fleet, Hampshire) was the fastest of the drivers who will be eligible to score points in the 2005 B4 Group Graduate Cup, the ex-Formula A karting star lapping with a best time of 1m 06.566 seconds to place him in 17th position on the timesheets. A total of 27 drivers took part in the test.
Bloss sets BARC ‘Club Class’ testing pace
Competitors from the Formula Renault BARC Championship ‘Club Class’ were also on hand at the Snetterton test today with experienced runner Martin Bloss (Andover, Hampshire) leading the way.
At the wheel of his Logic Motorsport/X-Dream entered Tatuus RC97, Bloss set a best time of 1m 12.629 seconds with WL Racing’s Cameron Jackson (Scampton) half a second adrift in his Tatuus RC98.
DS Motorsport’s David Scott (Heathfield, East Sussex) set the third fastest time of 1m 13.374 seconds, driving a Tatuus FR98/99, with James Heffernan’s (London) JH Motorsport Tatuus RC97 fourth. Novice single-seater racer Andy Skriczka (Aldershot, Hampshire), meanwhile, was fifth quickest in his ex-Kimi Raikkonen, Avantec Motorsport-run Mygale SJ99.
