A multi-car assault is planned for the team’s fourth consecutive season in the F3 Asian Championship certified by FIA.
As a major player in one of the fastest growing sports in Asia, Absolute Racing has been able to take any driver on a journey through the junior formulas to the top level of the sport in the most professional environment.
Porsche Motorsport Asia-Pacific Selected Driver Alessio Picariello revamped his career in 2015 by joining the team. In 2016 Philip Hamprecht moved to Asia to conquer the Formula Masters China Series title that opened the door to a full-time seat in Porsche Carrera Cup Asia and a drivers’ title with Team StarChase.
Absolute Racing has seen a range of drivers progress through their ranks via F3, including the 2020 Euroformula Open champion Ye Yifei, the Indy Pro 2000 Championship runner-up Devlin DeFrancesco. Rising Chinese star Daniel Cao joined NIO 333 FE Team as the development driver after finishing in the top 3 in the 2019 F3 Asian Championship with Absolute Racing. Former W Series champion Jamie Chadwick, the Williams F1 Development Driver and Aston Martin Racing Factory GT Driver, and the first female racer to win in the Asian F3 series, was recently confirmed among the 20 drivers competing in the inaugural Extreme E season in 2021.
In three F3 Asian Championship seasons and one in the Asian Winter Series, the team picked a total of eight wins and 32 podium positions.
With five rounds planned for the United Arab Emirates from January to February, the 2021 F3 Asian Championship season has kept budgets front of mind by designing a cost-effective schedule. With three races at Yas Marina’s F1 circuit and two at Dubai Autodrome, the championship will provide drivers once again with the opportunity to earn FIA Super Licence points.
The China based outfit’s F3 programme will be overseen by Martin Young, who has managed Absolute Racing’s F3 Asian Championship efforts since 2019. The team’s drivers will be announced in due course. In the meantime, the team has been busy testing potential drivers at the Shanghai International Circuit.
Team Manager Martin Young said, “We are looking forward to return to racing. It has been difficult past few months for the Asian championships. I’m looking forward for the championship to take place in the UAE. Abu Dhabi was a strong circuit for us last year with a pole and podiums for two of our drivers so we can’t wait to go back. We ended the 2020 season on high with a win and podiums so starting off in the same place is key. The success we had last year with three out four drivers all achieved podium shows the strength within the team so we are hoping for the same again this year”.
