Porsche Carrera Cup Asia to host invitational event at Macau

The 2021 Porsche Carrera Cup Asia (PCCA) Presented by AximTrade will hold an invitational round at Macau’s legendary Guia Circuit on 19-21 November for the Macau GP. The non-championship event will be the series’ first visit to Macau since 2013, with the Porsche 911 GT3 Cup (992) set to make its maiden appearance on the world-famous street circuit.

Asia’s premier one-make series has raced at the continent’s biggest racing event on seven previous occasions, hosting the season finale in the first five PCCA campaigns between 2003 and 2007, along with visits in 2009 and 2013.

In addition to PCCA’s usual Pro, Pro-Am and Am driver classes, there will be an additional category for previous generation 991 cars, giving Porsche Sports Cup China racers the opportunity to compete with the regular PCCA field. This means 991 and 992 machinery will race on-track together for the first time. The 992 car has enjoyed a successful debut season, with nine races and four rounds completed at three venues - Shanghai, Zhuhai and Ningbo. Daniel Lu and Cui Yue are locked in a tense title battle in the Pro class, with Bao Jinlong holding a strong lead in the Pro-Am category. Brothers Eric and Henry Kwong have shared the race wins in the Am class, with Eric holding the title lead. Two rounds remain, with a trip to Zhuzhou set for 22-24 October ahead of the season finale in Shanghai a week later.

It will also be the first time Porsche will race at Macau since 2019, when ROWE Racing and Absolute Racing took part in the FIA GT World Cup, with the former taking a double podium.

The Guia Circuit twists through the narrow streets of the city of Macau, located on China’s southern coast. The track measures 6.2-kilometres in length and contains 19 corners, providing a stiff test for drivers and machinery alike.

Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “Porsche Carrera Cup Asia Presented by AximTrade has enjoyed an excellent season in 2021, with the new 992 car a huge success. Racing at Macau is a massive honour for the series and I’m delighted to see the championship return to the incredible Guia Circuit. The Macau GP is always a fantastic event and I know that it will be amazing once again this year. I’m looking forward to seeing the PCCA cars and drivers racing around the track, putting on a great show for the fans.”
