Yifei Ye kicks off 2023 WEC campaign with 1000 Miles of Sebring victory

Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver Yifei Ye got his 2023 campaign off to the perfect start, taking LMP2 class victory at the 1000 Miles of Sebring, the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) season opener.

The Chinese driver, racing for the first time with Hertz Team JOTA, qualified the car in fifth and performed strongly during the race to take victory alongside teammates Will Stevens and David Beckmann.

Over in Asia, Porsche entries secured podium finishes in both the overall and GT3-Am categories in the Sepang 12 Hours. As the race returned for the first time since 2016, EBM Giga Racing led the event midway through, eventually crossing the line in third. In the GT3-Am category, the crews of both AMAC Motorsport and Modena Motorsports took a trip to the rostrum, crossing the line second and third respectively, while FM Motorsport x Silver Rocket’s Simon Chan, Li Jia and Shaun Thong also had a solid race at the wheel of the #101 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup.

Yifei Ye, Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Selected Driver: “I’m so happy to start the season with a victory here in Sebring. There was a lot of learning involved throughout the weekend, but we executed the race extremely well as a team. We had a lot of close challengers behind but the crew did everything perfectly and we kept our rivals at bay to take the win. It’s a great achievement and now we need to keep this momentum up for Portimao.”

Alexandre Gibot, Managing Director Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific Ltd.: “We’re delighted for Yifei, he did a great job to help Hertz Team JOTA to a well-deserved win. It was a really competitive field so we’re all very proud of his performance. Over in Asia, the Sepang 12 Hours made a successful return, with three of our cars on the podiums. Congratulations to everybody and we’re looking forward to more soon!”
