Marco Wittmann (BMW) celebrated his first win of the season on Saturday at the Dutch coastal town of Zandvoort in the most popular international touring car series.
The reigning DTM champion beat his brand colleague and pole-sitter Augusto Farfus off the line and defended his lead to the flag. Behind him, positions two to seven also went to the Munich automobile manufacturer.
Despite track temperatures of 38 degrees on the dune circuit, the Ventus Race tyre from premium manufacturer Hankook allowed constant lap times right to the end of the race.
Taking off from second on the grid at Zandvoort in bright sunshine, Marco Wittmann made the best start of the four BMW pilots on the first two grid rows. Behind him, his brand colleagues António Félix da Costa and Maxime Martin also got away well at the start to overtake pole-sitter Augusto Farfus. And this order remained unchanged over 25 laps to the end of the race. For much of the race, Gary Paffett looked good for a safe fifth place, but in the penultimate lap the Mercedes-Benz driver took a trip into the gravel which ultimately saw him go home empty-handed with eleventh place.
