THE BUGATTI DIVO
A striking, coachbuilt evolution of the Chiron, the 2020 Bugatti Divo represents a rare and focused expression of modern hypercar engineering—designed not only for outright speed but for agility, precision, and excitement. Limited to just 40 units worldwide and exclusively offered to Chiron owners, all sold before its public unveiling at Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance in 2018, the Divo is named in tribute to French-Italian pilot and mechanic Albert Divo, a two-time Targa Florio winner for Bugatti in the 1920s.
The Divo was Bugatti's first coach-built hyper sports car for the 21st century. It was developed under the leadership of Bugatti President Stephan Winkelmann, and created by a team of elite engineers and designers at the brand's headquarters in Molsheim, France. Spearheaded by Achim Anscheidt (Design Director), the Divo was envisioned as the "cornering dynamo" in Bugatti's portfolio—a car made not for top speed runs, but for delivering breathtaking handling on twisty mountain passes and private racetracks.
While it shares its underlying powertrain with the Chiron—the legendary 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 producing 1,500 horsepower with 1,180 lb-ft of torque—the Divo is more than just a rebodied Chiron. It features a reworked suspension, stiffer chassis tuning, and 35 kg (77 lbs) of weight reduction, achieved through lightweight wheels, a carbon fiber intercooler cover, and refined sound insulation. The dramatically re-sculpted bodywork produces 456 kg of total downforce, a full 90 kg more than the Chiron, thanks to the massive fixed rear wing, revised diffuser, and advanced airflow management. Not for the faint of heart, the Divo can accelerate from 0-60 in 2.4 seconds and has a top speed of 236 mph (380 km/h) – which is electronically limited. This wolf in wolf's clothing comes with a muzzle.
The exterior of the Divo is both menacing and achingly beautiful. It premiers a fresh front architecture with wider air intakes for cooling, and a new front splitter for additional downforce. The lightweight LED headlights are specifically designed to provide additional air intake for the brakes. The central fin visually connects the bonnet and roof, highlighting the NACA air inlet and the air sucked in through the horseshoe grill is partially released through the bonnet to generate extra downforce. It is truly a masterpiece in aerodynamic engineering.
The unique color scheme purposely creates division between the sleek top and the sharp and chiseled lower section, in an overall tapered signature line with bright blue accents and the subtle French tricolor tucked in behind the front wheel well. The wedge profile and raised beltline visually tip the cockpit forward, creating an aggressive crouching stance, even at rest.
Enter the interior and one is met with a symphony of Bugatti's extraordinary craftsmanship with bespoke finishes. Alcantara, anodized metals, and sculpted carbon elements create a motorsport-inspired yet luxurious atmosphere with extreme attention to detail...note the charming elephant insignia on the passenger's seat back—a tribute to Rembrandt Bugatti, Ettore's younger brother. The stunning contrast of the Divo "Racing Blue" provides an intentional optical juxtaposition between the dissimilar materials, and while the seats and spacious cockpit exude comfort, with enlarged paddle shifts, Alcantara covered steering wheel and calf supports in the seats, the lightweight console is highly designed to provide every possible data point at the touch of a finger.
THE CAR OFFERED
This Divo, the first one to be offered at auction, has fewer than 800 miles from new and only two owners. Delivered new to Florida, the first owner – a passionate enthusiast with an extensive supercar collection – retained the car in his West Palm Beach garage. This Divo was one of the stars of the recent exhibition 'Hypercars: The Allure of the Extreme' at the Petersen Museum, a showcase of one of the ultimate expressions of the word 'hypercar'. Serviced at the local dealer in Davie, Florida prior to entering the current collection last year, fewer than 160 miles per year have been added since leaving the dealership. Currently wearing aftermarket wheels, the original wheels complete with the celebrated EB emblem and hardly used Michelin low profile tires accompany the car, along with the vehicle manual and a supplementary book.
Coveted by collectors worldwide, the Divo is especially attractive to connoisseurs who recognize this Bugatti as a piece of rolling art with investment-grade performance. Suited to exclusive track events, curated concours gatherings, and private collections, the Divo is actually most comfortable when exercised spiritedly on open roads by the experienced hypercar enthusiast.
The 2020 Bugatti Divo stands not only as a rare hypercar but as a symbol of what happens when engineering mastery, design passion, and exclusivity converge. It is a modern-day coachbuilt masterpiece—intensely focused, instantly iconic, and with only 40 built - rarely available to the public market.
