THE BUGATTI CHIRON SUPER SPORT

The 2023 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is a direct evolution of the legendary Chiron, designed to enhance performance, refinement, and control. The Super Sport traces its origins to Bugatti's historic pursuit of top speed and apex engineering. Following the debut of the standard Chiron in 2016, Bugatti engineers—under the leadership of President Stephan Winkelmann and Chief Engineer Frank Heyl—set their sights on pushing boundaries even further. In 2019, a modified Chiron Super Sport 300+ prototype became the first hypercar to break the 300mph barrier, at 304.773mph.

The 2023 production model, while electronically limited to 273mph for road use, is directly descended from that record-setting prototype. It combines blistering performance with grand touring comfort—the hallmark of the Bugatti brand.

At the heart of this endeavor lies Bugatti's legendary 8.0-liter quad-turbocharged W16 engine, tuned to deliver a 1,578 horsepower with 1,180 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded engine features newly designed turbochargers, improved thermal efficiency, and reinforced internals to accommodate the extreme forces generated at high rpm and speed. This car has a top speed of much like the speed at which planes fly. The responsibility for distributing this immense power is assumed by the seven-gear dual-clutch transmission, which at full load and full speed, shifts from sixth to seventh gear at 261mph, facilitates acceleration from 0-60mph in 2.3 seconds and 0-124mph in an incredible 5.8 seconds. Impressive, considering the totality of the Super Sport weighs over 4,400 pounds. And better still, the soundtrack evoked by all this power is positively symphonic, thanks to a reconfigured exhaust arrangement inspired by the F6 fighter jet with two pipes stacked either side of the diffuser.

Hosting this goliath of a powertrain is a revised monocoque carbon-fiber chassis. The chassis geometry, suspension calibration, and aerodynamics are tuned to maintain composure at ultra-high velocities, aided by adaptive dampers, active ride height adjustment, and advanced rear-wheel steering.

Visually, the Chiron Super Sport is distinguished by its longtail rearend, extended by 25 centimeters over the standard Chiron, which along with the lower deflector reduces the tear-off area by 40%, significantly improving stability. The front fender vents, a romantic homage to the iconic EB110, air curtains and enlarged air intakes enhance downforce while reducing drag at high speeds, keeping airflow tight to the body's contours. Where the rubber meets the road Bugatti employed the bespoke Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, each individually X-rayed to eradicate irregularities and mounted on reinforced aluminum wheels, assuring stability over 250mph.

THE CAR OFFERED

This example of the Super Sport was delivered in Glacier with Rouge Étoilé lower body accents, as part of Bugatti's Molsheim-based Sur Mesure, or 'custom tailored' program, assuring each discerning customer a unique choice of bespoke customization. Sitting inside the cockpit of the beautifully contoured Super Sport evokes the feeling of surfing inside a cresting wave—exhilarating, but strangely calm. This example is dressed in Italian Red with Blanc leather accents fitted over the comfort seat option, with matte carbon fiber, and anodized black aluminum, blending performance materials with artisanal finish. The minimalist dashboard features analog-mechanical dials encased in matte carbon fiber, subtly reminding the driver that this is a car rooted in tradition even as it defines the future. All creature comforts—climate control, a 3D Accuton high-fidelity sound system, navigation, and Bugatti's unique driver interface with real-time telemetry and performance data—are at the driver's fingertips. Despite its ferocious capability, the Super Sport remains a serene and comfortable environment—even at triple-digit cruising speeds. Included with the car is a case with extra keys and a thumb drive containing photos and video of the car as it was being produced.

This Chiron Super Sport is a singular commission from the 'Sur Mesure' program, ordered in bespoke trim in a classy combination to stand out from other examples. With over $450,000 in custom options alone, this Bugatti is certainly unique to its own name. A few notable options include the 2-tone exterior paint, in which this is one of the few Chiron examples that feature the custom tailored and freshly developed 'eye shadow' paint lines around the headlights; quite a striking detail on the well-appointed exterior livery. Rolling gear consist of gloss Black finished Super Sport wheels in magnesium with Italian Red brake calipers behind. The exterior features so many other custom additions to list including the very desirable 'Sky View' roof, not to mention the striking interior details. The interior is optioned with Black anodized components, Italian red seatbelts and rear-view mirror. Rounding out the interior is the custom dancing elephant logos on the seat headrests finished in gold stitching, quite a nice touch.

The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport is above all a technological monument and the closing chapter in the story of the legendary W16 engine, which Bugatti has since retired. With only 70-80 examples built globally, this is a rare opportunity to own a future icon. This low mileage (under 1,325 miles) example of the 2024 Bugatti Chiron Super Sport represents the peak of the internal combustion era—a car to be celebrated, preserved, and enjoyed.
