Looking at the Cobra Mark IV register (extract on file) reveals that only two right-hand drive examples were completed at AC Cars Ltd's Brooklands factory in 1989 fitted with Ford 427ci (7.0-litre) cross-bolted side-oiler engines: 'AK1303' and 'AK1304' (see identification plate for 'AK1304' on the right side of the foot-box under the bonnet). According to the register, the car was first registered in 1995 and originally owned by one G Hutchinson.
The car is fitted with its original four-speed top-loader gearbox with Hurst shifter, and is finished in its original colour of Porsche Nile Green. The interior was re-trimmed by Graham Dean in January 2007 in Spruce Green leather.
The Cobra was delivered to its current owner in May 2007 with a recorded mileage of 9,890. A final drive of 3.54:1 ratio is currently fitted to suit the current owner's rural driving preferences. The original 3.02:1 final drive is included in the sale together with the period number plate. The car is covered by a Trafficmaster Trackstar vehicle tracker with owner's lifetime membership. The next owner will need to renew if required. The car is also fitted with an Auto Watch immobiliser.
In 2014 an engine rebuild was undertaken by Knight Racing Services in Daventry, including dynamometer testing, which recorded figures of 425bhp at 4,700 rpm and 497.5lb/ft of torque at 4,100rpm, exceeding expectations (see printout on file). In addition to the rebuild, the engine was fitted with a high-capacity oil sump, aluminium cylinder heads, and a Holley 4781-7800 CFM double pumper carburettor. To improve engine cooling, a high capacity SPAL VA 18-41 fan; triple-core aluminium radiator and Zircotec treated headers were fitted in 2015. The suspension has been uprated with anti-roll bars front and rear.
That same year the top-loader gearbox was overhauled and a clutch servo kit fitted in 2016 to aid depression of the competition clutch. A new set of tyres was fitted in 2018: Avon 225/65R15 99V CR6ZZ to the front and spare; and Avon 275/55R15 104V CR6ZZ to the rear.
Tonneau cover, side screens, hood in Sage Green and hoops are included in the sale. The car has always been housed in a central heated garage attached to the owner's property. As a semi-retired precision engineer and classic-car owner, he finds his enjoyment is more about buying and improving vehicles over a period of time rather than driving them. This is reflected in the Cobra's recorded mileage when purchased (9,890) and current miles to date: 10,805.
