Gilham to graduate to Carrera Cup GB

Tony Gilham will step up to the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this season with ReDesign Racing. The 28-year old Kent driver is the reigning VW Racing Cup champion and a former BMX cycle racing World Champion, but says that graduating to the Carrera Cup will be his biggest challenge to date."This year is going to be a big test for me and the whole ReDesign team," said Gilham. "But what we lack in experience we make up for in our desire to be successful. I want to stretch myself as a driver and I'm really looking forward to the challenge. It's a privilege to be racing at such a high level."I wanted to race in the BTCC package and saw the Carrera Cup as the best way forward. I want to test myself against the best and I'm sure I will learn a lot. I'd like to do two or three years in the Carrera Cup and then maybe look at the Porsche Supercup."ReDesign Racing is a pool of diverse backgrounds and talents. Team principal Karl Chopra is the owner of Design 911 and DesignTek, while chief engineer Chris Stewart is the man in charge of tuning and race preparation specialists Regal Autosport. The chief mechanic is Keith Davis from Little Mote Garage in Kent."Motor sport has been an ambition of mine since childhood," said Chopra. "To be entering the Carrera Cup is a dream come true. ReDesign Racing is a new race team with a motivated driver who is prepared to work his way up and we're all really looking forward to the new season.""After winning the VW Cup, this is a natural forward step for Regal Autosport," said Stewart. "We're looking forward to the challenge ahead."Gilham and ReDesign Racing, with their eye-catching 911GT3 Cup car, will start their programme in the opening Carrera Cup GB races at Brands Hatch on 29/30 March.
