Rice aims at back-to-back Carrera titles
Nigel Rice will defend his pro-am title in the Porsche Carrera Cup GB this season after confirming plans to extend his successful relationship with Red Line Racing into 2008.With backing from Beverley-based Nigel Rice Transport, Rice continues with Red Line Racing for a seventh season and will mount his fourth consecutive Carrera Cup campaign with the Middlesborough team. For the first time in 2008, the winning pro-am driver will earn the use of a road-going Porsche 911 for a year and Rice is determined to challenge for the award. "The idea of winning a Porsche road car for a year sounds pretty good; it really appeals to me, so I'm out to defend my title," said Rice.In 2007 Rice also finished sixth in the overall points' standings, having scored points in 19 of the 20 races. Only a broken driveshaft at Knockhill prevented a perfect scoring record. He has finished in the overall top five twice before in the Carrera Cup, despite missing the first season of the championship, 2003, after a motorcycle accident.Rice will maintain his long-time relationship with Red Line Racing boss Simon Leonard. "When I first raced a Porsche back in 1989 and 1990, Simon was a teenage mechanic with the team, so we go back a long way."Rice and Red Line Racing will start their programme in the opening Carrera Cup GB races at Brands Hatch on 29/30 March.
