AP Racing, the leading manufacturer of performance braking and clutch systems for race and road use, is pleased to announce a contract to supply its revolutionary Radi-CAL brake system to leading F3 team Carlin Motorsport for their 2008 campaign. AP Racing has a worldwide reputation for the supply of high-quality, high performance components to the motorsport and automotive industries. AP Racing announced the development of the Radi-CAL brake caliper in November, since when it has already achieved successes in US Stock Car’s premier Sprint Cup category. Radi-CAL has attracted worldwide interest from engineers in many disciplines and AP Racing will shortly be announcing new products incorporating the concept for several new applications.
AP Racing will supply six complete braking systems - comprised of the latest Radi-CAL calipers, discs (CP3947), mounting bells, master cylinders, mounting hardware and pads - to the two Carlin F3 Dallara Euro Series cars, along with the team’s four UK International Class cars. In addition, AP Racing will also be supplying brake systems to the two Carlin-run F3 UK National cars as well as on-track support at UK and Euro series events.
Carlin Motorsport, founded in 1996 by Trevor Carlin and Martin Stone, has competed in nearly all levels of single seater motorsport, with race winning success in Formula BMW UK, British F3 and World Series by Renault. Last season saw Maro Engel record the team’s 130th win with victory in the British F3 Series. The 2008 season will see Carlin Motorsport expand further into Europe, as it enters its first season in the F3 Euro Series with 2005 Formula BMW USA champion, Richard Phillippe.
Trevor Carlin, Team Prinicipal for Carlin Motorsport explains: “The AP Racing designers have started with a clean sheet of paper and reinvented the brake caliper for the 21st century and a modern race team with the Radi-CAL system. This dramatic new design has given us a great weight saving and produced a super light and stiff package which will help give us the edge on track. British F3 is an immensely competitive championship and even the smallest advantage in technology can make the difference on track. Together with AP Racing, we are producing a package capable of challenging for race wins at every British F3 race meeting.”
“Pre-season testing at Pembrey, Snetterton and Silverstone with the new systems has gone extremely well over the last few months” adds Norman Barker, Director of Sales at AP Racing. “We have been working closely with Carlin Motorsport on the development of the groundbreaking Radi-CAL caliper system. We are looking forward to the coming season and the opportunities we will have to support the team with products and on-track assistance.”
The first competitive F3 outing for the AP Racing Radi-CAL brake system will be at Oulton Park over the Easter weekend (20-22 March 2008) when Carlin Motorsport will be aiming to build on the successes of the 2007 season.
