Yokohama Drivers Cup USA: Coaching Competence

An organization is only as competent as its members. The Yokohama Drivers Cup congratulates its Director of Coaching,Craig Stanton on the strong start to his racing season. Craig won the seasonopener Koni Challenge Series race at Daytona International Speedway. He and co-driver Tim Traver won in their BGB Motorsports Porsche 997 over ninety-one other entrants. And at what many call the toughest sports car race of the year, Craig co-drove to a sixth place finish in the GT2 class at the 12 Hours of Sebring in the VC Racing Porsche 911 GT3 RSR.

“The Koni Challenge Race at Daytona was a great race for all the guys at BGB Racing,” noted Craig.

“It was a culmination of a seven race push that started last year. We were on the podium the last five races of 2007 and came to Daytona with our gun loaded. Our strategy worked well: we ran our own race and saved the car and tires so we were able to put our best foot forward at the end of the race.

“At Sebring we were in top six for the whole race and the top three for a good three or four hours. The car did not have a hic cup until the last hour and half when a fitting on the power steering unit broke and we had an axle go away that put us off the podium.”

Craig brings over twenty five years of racing on two and four wheels to the Yokohama Drivers Cup. “With me being in a car for five days a week for the past fifteen years, I have a huge tool box to be able to draw from. The best part of coaching the Yokohama Drivers Cup is when the light bulb goes on and people are able to learn a new craft because of the cumulative input of the series’ staff.”

Craig is representative of the dedication of the series’ staff to producing a personalized learning experience that positively touches every participant. The third and fourth races of the Yokohama Drivers Cup will be held this weekend at California Speedway, April 4 – 6. Craig is just one member of a devoted staff that brings a wide range of experience to the track for all the drivers and teams to draw upon.
