THE HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship is 50 this year and Rockingham has lined up a fantastic weekend of family entertainment to celebrate this golden anniversary. The party starts at the Northamptonshire circuit on April 12/13, with round four, five and six of the UK’s premier motor racing series – but the action will not be confined to the track.
To celebrate 50 years of Britain’s biggest tin-top championship, there will be live music from the past five decades with performances from local band, Not the Beatles and Take That 2 representing the 60s and 90s.
Northants 96 Breakfast Show presenters Jagger & Woody will provide the tunes of the 80s, and Northamptonshire band Soul Convention will provide the music from the 70s and present day.
The UK’s hottest formation display team The Blades, will be entertaining the Rockingham crowd at the circuit with their award winning display - a breathtaking collection of opposition passes, gyroscopic tumbles and close formation manoeuvres that have never before been seen.
If that isn’t enough there will also be fire eaters, children’s entertainers, a funfair, free crèche and the traditional Pit Lane Walkabout where fans can meet their BTCC heroes and collect autographs.
Director of Sales & Marketing at Rockingham, Charlotte Orton, said: “This is a special year for the British Touring Car Championship and we wanted to celebrate in style. We pride ourselves on providing great entertainment for the whole family, and have lined-up a host of attractions including an air display from the amazing Blades and live music from the past five decades. We have increased the free admission age to 15 years and under, to help make this event a great family weekend out at a price people can afford.”
On track, Rockingham hosts round four, five and six of the championship plus action from the Formula Renault UK, Ginetta Juniors, Porsche Carrera Cup GB, Elf Renault Clio Cup and the SEAT Cupra Championship. Rockingham offers superb panoramic views of the whole circuit and is the only venue on the BTCC calendar where you can catch all the action as the drama unfolds on the track.
