High praise for Rockingham track

from race series boss

Crowds attending Rockingham’s forthcoming rounds of the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship (Sunday 13 April) are in for three action-packed races, believes the boss of the country’s biggest motor racing series Alan Gow.

Furthermore, Gow says the Northamptonshire circuit’s unique all-seater setting means paying spectators will get a better view of the high drama that is part of the BTCC than at any other race track in the UK.

“Rockingham is perfect for the BTCC’s crowds,” said Gow. “Our races are full of action and incident and a ticket at Rockingham means a place in the grandstands and clear views of the whole lap.

“This circuit also presents the drivers with a unique challenge as its Turn 1 is the only banked corner we race on all year. Due to the width of the track, there is every chance that we could see up to four cars running through there abreast.

“The remainder of the Rockingham circuit presents many other challenges with plenty of different types of corners. And with the competition in this year’s BTCC so close – as witnessed in last weekend’s opening rounds at Brands Hatch – I predict three very hotly contested races at Rockingham.”

Rockingham, near Corby, marks the second stop in the BTCC’s ten-event 2008 calendar – this year being filmed live by ITV4. Its three rounds there on 13 April headline a packed bill of action that also includes another seven races from a variety of supporting categories.

Furthermore, Rockingham has increased its FREE admission policy to children aged 15 and under and all-day adult admission – including a grandstand seat – costs just £21.00 if booked in advance.*

Its location also means it is within reach of motor sport fans from right across the East Midlands, including those in neighbouring counties such as Cambridgeshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire and Leicestershire.

Gow added: “BTCC race day at Rockingham offers tremendous value for money entertainment for the public, in particular families as our paddock is also open meaning there’s the opportunity to meet the drivers during the fans autograph session on the Sunday.

“Rockingham’s public facilities also rank among the very best of any sports venue – let alone motor racing circuit – in the UK. The circuit puts great effort into its promotion of its events and it genuinely prides itself on caring for its paying customers. It is a great asset to British sport.

“The BTCC very much looks forward to welcoming the crowds to Rockingham on 13 April.”
