Foster-Jones Clinches KF2 Championship

Southend-on-Sea racing driver Rob Foster-Jones secured the Renault-sponsored Super One MSA national karting championship on Sunday, 5th October with two race wins at the season finale at Shenington circuit.

The 18-year-old had only an outside chance of taking the title at the start of the weekend, but made the best of improving conditions during the crucial final races while his rivals faded away.

Foster-Jones said: “I came into the round 15 points behind in the championship. It was almost too much of a task to close the gap in one round so I made a decision to just try to win the two finals and end the season on a high. I wasn’t thinking about the championship until after the race, I was just thinking about the job in hand. I’m totally ecstatic – it’s been a perfect weekend.”

His main rival Michael Simpson (Hessle, E Yorks) started the first race in sixth position but dropped well down the field after contact with another kart at the first corner of the first final and never regained position.

Meanwhile, Jordan Chamberlain (Newport) qualified for the first final in 14th place following difficult wet weather qualifying sessions. He made brilliant progress in final one, finishing in seventh, but was left behind by the leaders in final two and could only improve by one place to finish sixth.

Chamberlain’s results still secured him second place in the championship, with Shaun Carter (Crowthorne, Berkshire) capitalising on a second place finish in final one to take third in the overall standings.

KF2 provisional championship points: 1. Rob Foster-Jones 454pts; 2. Michael Simpson 443pts; 3. Jordan Chamberlain 442pts; 4. Shaun Carter 423pts; 5. Gary Edwards 407pts; 6. Charles Bonsey 392pts.
