Bikes: Woffinden & Stead Join Kennett

British Wild card Edward Kennett will be joined by compatriots Tai Woffinden and Simon Stead as track reserves at the FIM British Speedway Grand Prix, which takes place at the Millennium Stadium, Cardiff on Saturday June 27.

Kennett, who earned the number 16 race jacket by clinching second place behind current Grand prix rider Chris Harris at the British Final, has been in excellent form, as have both Woffinden and Stead. Woffinden will ride at no. 17, while Stead will take the no. 18 berth.

Woffinden, who at just 18 years old is one of the sport’s rising stars, is a young man in a hurry: “I want to get into the GP’s as quickly as possible and this is a great experience. It is an amazing atmosphere in Cardiff, with so many people in a stadium like that. I was track reserve there last year and it would be great get out there again. I ride against Jason Crump and the rest every week in Poland and this is where I really want to be.”

Stead was the wildcard at Cardiff in 2006, now 27 he is coming to the peak of his form: “It is great to be involved, and if I get the chance then I will just try to take it with both hands. I’m fifth in Britain which isn’t a bad thing to be. It would be nice to be higher up but we’ll just continue to progress.”
