2009 Yokohama V8 Ute Racing Series driver Warren Millet truly lives up to his nickname “The Battla” after recently undergoing surgery to have a brain tumour removed by well known Sydney surgeon Charlie Teo.
The owner of the Wake-up Backpackers hotel in George Street Sydney, Millett has been in the V8 Ute Series since 2007 however had to miss the last 2 rounds due to the recovery phase but hopes to be back on the track this weekend for Round 4 of the series in Darwin.
“I am feeling pretty good and can’t wait to get back on the track,” said Millett.
Millett’s tumour was so large, the Neurosurgeon booked him in the very next day for surgery.
Following the operation, the biopsy results indicated the tumour was a “low grade,” not as critical as first thought which relieved the Holden driver immensely.
“Originally they thought it would be a grade three or four so I was so happy when it came back as a two.”
“I feel good, however because of the size of the tumour I have about 6 – 8 weeks recovery time. I will have to have MRI scans every 3 – 4 months and after 18 months if there’s no further issues the Doc says I should be all clear.””
Millett has been working really hard at his recovery including a major weight loss programme.
“I went to see a dietician and have lost a few kilos but I still need to drop some more”
The New South Welshmen is pleased with his progress and Teo’s work.
“He is a bit of a maverick and will take a risk that other doctors won’t and that’s what I love about him,” said Millett. “He would make a great Ute driver as he simply has no fear and doesn’t like following the rules!.”
Millet is currently waiting on doctors orders on when he can return to the track and hopes that he might make Darwin this weekend. His Mechanic, Matthew Holt has been driving for him at the past two rounds.
“Matty has been racing really well and has been looking after the car for me. He has already overtaken me in the Series so I will have to get back behind the wheel soon to reclaim my rank.”
Round Four of the Series commences Friday 19th June – 21st June at Hidden Raceway, Darwin.
Race 2 will be televised live on Network Seven from 12pm EST, Sunday, 21st June.
