Team Modena’s smooth progress up the LM GT2 leaderboard at this weekend’s Le Mans 24-Hour race was rudely interrupted at twenty minutes to midnight local time when Leo Mansell, out for his first night running of the race, was hit by a prototype car on his out lap after a pit stop. Leo reported to the team that the car was alongside and simply turned in on him – puncturing the team’s Ferrari 430’s front right tyre and causing Leo to slowly cruise round before pitting again.

The damage from the incident, which saw the other car also pit for repairs, was amazingly limited to just the wheel, the car arriving without any shred of rubber on the rim after Leo’s slow lap. The team pulled the Ferrari back into the garage for a fast check over, but with no lasting damage Leo was sent out again and was soon lapping at his former pace.

Leo completed the second half of his double-stint without further incident, and as the team now race into the early hours of Sunday, Roman Rusinov is once more aboard the Ferrari and lapping quickly to regain the places.
