Peugeot win Le Mans

At the manufacturers 3rd attempt with this car - the Peugeot 908 Hdi-FAP crewed by Marc Gene, David Brabham and Alex Wurz win the Le Mans 24 hour race.

David Brabham's win means that the Brabham family have won 3 Le Mans.

Peugeot headed a 1-2 and basically outpaced the new Audi R15 tdi over the race.

Team Essex Porsche won LMP2 and predictably Chevrolet in the face of no competition won GT1.

GT2 was perhaps the strongest battle with a number of closely matched driver squads and car combinations. Essentially it was a Ferrari 430 vs Porsche 997 battle - with the Porsches at the beginning of the race looking a real threat.

However the stellar line-up of Melo, Salo and Kaffer in the Risi Competizione 430 GT lead home the 12 remaining GT2 cars - resulting in a Ferrari  - 1-2-3-4 finish in the class.

The Spyker did well to finish 5th in class and Team Modena finished 7th in class. Good to see Drayson finish in the Aston ahead of the last placed Porsche 997 of Team Asia. Who would have predicted only one 997 would finish - and in last place?!

34 cars were running out of 55 starters after 24 hours racing.
