(SPEEDWAY 1) BIRMINGHAM collected their first major silverware since the club's re-launch with a dramatic win in Friday's Premier League Pairs.Brummies duo Jason Lyons and Tomasz Piszcz eliminated King's Lynn in the semi-final and then overcame hosts Somerset to take the trophy.Lyons said: "After two rides we could have gone home but we both changed bikes and it worked out. We're very proud to bring the trophy back to Birmingham."
(SPEEDWAY 2) SOMERSET skipper Steve Johnston was in philosophical mood after just missing out on the Premier League Pairs title to Birmingham.Johnston and partner Emil Kramer nearly produced a home victory for a big crowd at the Oak Tree Arena, but were beaten by the Brummies.Johnston said: "Second is no disgrace in such a strong line-up. It was a great night of racing, and we'll be back next year!"
(SPEEDWAY 3) NEWPORT will wrap up the British Grand Prix weekend by staging their major event of the season on Sunday lunchtime.Former winners David Howe and Paul Fry are included in the Welsh Open line-up (1pm), and Kevin Doolan won the club's re-launch meeting in March.Promoter Nick Mallett said: "It should be a great championship. We have compiled a top-quality field, and the advice is to turn up in plenty oftime."
