Bikes: Edmondson takes E2 win

AT WELSH TWO DAY ENDURO

Suzuki Enduro rider, Paul Edmondson, took an impressive win at the Welsh 2 day Enduro aboard his RMZ250, which ran on Thursday and Friday 25-26th June.

Following three special tests on day one, Edmondson was lying in second place overall in the event and second place in the E2 class. A superb final Day one test saw Fast Eddy claw back over 10 seconds on the leader Si Wakely.

The pair fought tooth and nail on day two with Edmondson chipping away at Wakely’s lead in the opening test but then the event was turned on its head by a torrential downpour at the beginning of the final test.

E1 class leaders Darryl Bolter and Lee Edmondson went through the test before the downpour and pulled a 30-second lead on the following pack of riders. Fast Eddy posted the fastest wet time on the test at Cwmthig Hill, catching the rider in front of him, but it was impossible to match the times posted by the two E1 class riders.

Fast Eddy jumped into the lead of the E2 class and was very unlucky not to have taken the overall win.

Edmondson: ‘Talk about bad timing! That downpour really made hard work of things and although I rode really well in the wet, I couldn’t match the dry times posted by the two leaders.

The bike was great, it really allowed me to attack the special tests at full steam but also ran consistently well over the 180 miles of the first day and 160 miles on day two.

I am pleased with the E2 class win but disappointed because I feel I could have taken the Overall, before the rain came, but that’s Enduro!’
