Davies ahead as Ginettas ..

head to Snetterton

Mark Davies is enjoying a great comeback season as he heads the Texaco Havoline Ginetta Championship which heads to Snetterton in Norfolk this weekend for its next double-header.

Three wins from six races have given Mark Davies a slender lead in the Texaco Havoline Ginetta Championship with the Yorkshireman carrying a slender 21 point advantage heading to Snetterton this weekend. Davies, in his Optimum Motorsport-run car, bagged a win at Oulton Park, Rockingham and Knockhill although life has never been easy this season. He made errors at both Oulton Park and Rockingham which have detracted from his points-scoring ability, but when Davies is in front he is hard to beat.

Dominic Pettit won at Oulton Park in a superb season opener and followed that up with a win at Knockhill. For teenager Dominic, though, a non-finish at Rockingham and a penalty at Knockhill mean that he is third in the standings with Andrew Smith, also a winner this year, offering the current threat to Davies in the championship.

Others who have impressed this year include the Optimum-run car of David Jackson, enjoying his most competitive season to date, Sean Huyton (who has been a top six regular in his rookie season) and Freddie Hetherington who has displayed plenty of pace in his first full season of car racing.

But although the championship is looking as though it is all about Davies, Smith and Pettit, they can never rule out Julian Barratt (Reflex Racing). Barratt has never been short of pace but is dreadfully short of luck – or rich in dreadful luck. Either way, he will be a potential winner this weekend – assuming that Lady Luck is in a good mood.

With two races for the 1800cc Ginetta G20s, on a circuit that lends itself to slipstreaming and overtaking aplenty, two of the best races of the weekend are on offer.

Qualifying takes place at 18:15 on Saturday July 4, with racing at 10:30 and 16:35 on Sunday July 5.
