Jordans take Britcar GT victory at Spa

Mike and Andrew Jordan claimed a superb Britcar GT class three victory at Spa-Francorchamps last weekend (26/27 June) in the JordanSport Ginetta G50.Despite giving away considerable power to their class rivals, their pace in the Ginetta in heavy rain netted class victory by nearly two laps in the three-hour race. To cap a fine weekend for JordanSport, the team's Ford Mustang took second in class in the concurrent Britcar Production race with Mike Jordan and Steve Wood at the wheel. With Mike scheduled to race both cars, Andrew started the Ginetta as a thunderstorm left the track awash and conditions were truly challenging when the race started. Despite limited experience in such conditions, Andrew turned in a fine performance and worked his way up the order and put the Ginetta into the class lead before pitting at mid-distance to hand the car over to his father.Meanwhile, Mike had revelled in the tough conditions in the Cambridge Business Travel Mustang and went from 32nd to ninth place in the first four laps. At the worst of the conditions, Mike was lapping 12s a lap faster than his nearest class rival. "We're still a chunk off the BMWs in the dry, but the Mustang was just the right car for those conditions," said Mike.A bold call on race strategy by Stuart Scott was to try and get the Mustang through the race on one-pit stop, so when Mike handed the car over to Steve Wood he had a break of only a couple of minutes before Andrew brought the Ginetta into the pits.As the track started to dry, Wood was just unable to keep the leading BMW at bay, but still claimed a fine second place after an excellent performance. But at the end of the race the Mustang had enough fuel for just one more lap, so it had been very close on the one-stop decision. In the Ginetta, Mike was able to reel off the second half of the race to maintain the advantage that Andrew has built. "It was great experience for Andrew and it was his first ever race at Spa," said Mike. "It was a brilliant weekend for the JordanSport team."
