Nasr Takes Win Formula BMW win

and Christensen Second.

The Formula BMW Europe competitors experienced their first wet racing conditions  in Germany yesterday  after the heavens opened shortly before their second race of the Nü rburgring weekend.

However, this did not stop the progress of championship front runners, Felipe Nasr (BR/Eurointernational) and Michael Christensen (DK/Mü cke Motorsport), who came first and second, while third was William Buller (GB/Fortec Motorsport). Due to the dangerous conditions the cars had to follow the Safety Car for the first two laps, so the action didn’t really start untl it pulled off.

Once racing started the first competitor to get caught out by the treacherous conditions was Gregoire Demoustier (FR/Rä ikkonen Robertson Racing). However, the same didn’t happen to Nasr who led the field from Buller and Christensen.

These three, along with Daniel Juncadella (ES/Eurointernational) and Robin Frijns (NL/Josef Kaufmann Racing), pulled away from the rest of the field. As Nasr put in fastest lap after fastest lap he increased his lead by an average of about a second a lap, so when the chequered flag came out he was over eight seconds ahead of Christensen, who had passed Buller on lap nine. The race was not incident free with collisions between Kazeem Manzur (GB/Josef Kaufmann Racing) and David Mengesdorf (DE/Eifelland Racing) on lap three and Jack Harvey (GB/Fortec Motorsport) and Javier Tarancon (ES/DAMS) on lap seven. Frijns was quickest Rookie again, while a couple of places behind him was Olivier Lombard (FR/Eurointernational). The Frenchman was having a good run to second in the  Rookie Cup, matching his previous best result in this class from Zandvoort.

While Nasr had worked hard on the track, it was his team who had worked hard off it. After his problems in race one they had worked until 1am this morning and then returned to the track at 5am. They had changed the engines on both cars of Nasr and Juncadella and so first and fourth was a fitting reward for the hard work.

1st  – Round 8: Felipe Nasr (BR/Eurointernational): “I am very happy as I had a really great race. This is what I was hoping for from the weekend. I made a very good start and just kept putting in good laps to take the win. The conditions were very tricky and the best way to drive was to be very consistent. I was very calm and relaxed and doing my job.“
