Yellowbird RUF CTR Nurburgring video

Onboard lap

External gratuitous oversteer footage

We were going through some old files - and in 1997 we were asked to build a site for the then UK importer for RUF. We got to see some lovely cars - including a very trick CTR which was built for one of the colossally wealthy Rausing family.

Anyway the importer went bust after we had done quite a bit of work - the only upside from this commerical disaster being that we got a £10 video of "yellowbird" (Faszination) doing it's thing at the 'Ring. I subsequently saw this driver (Stefan Roser) with sublime car control - and white socks(!) do a demo at a Goodwood Press Day at the circuit.

The other drivers were pootling round in various Supercars prompting comments from bored onlookers that they could do better - what time is lunch etc..Then Roser came down the Lavant straight at a decent rate of knots and promptly threw the car into the most fabulous drift into Woodcote. It was the guys first lap at the track - Woodcote does not have much run-off - he just showed why when it comes to car control - he really is the dogs bollocks. Unfortunately - the rear tyres of the CTR could not take his committed driving style at just about every corner around the track - and he came in after a few laps - the tyres completely shagged.

Anyway some links from the iconic video - if you are have been living under a rock for a while - or are too young to know about yellowbird - enclose info below:

"Yellow Bird" was built in 1987 and is the famous car that we have all read about in Road & Track that won the shoot-out and beat all of the worlds fastest super cars, including the Porsche 959S. "Yellow Bird" ran 211.5 mph in this top speed shoot-out at the VW proving ground. This same car went even faster, 212.5 mph, at a subsequent event held on the Nardo Racetrack. In addition to the speed records "Yellow Bird" clocked 0-60 mph in 4 second and turned the quarter mile at 133.5 mph in 11.7 seconds.
