Christensen Completes the Perfect Weekend

Michael Christensen (DK/Mü cke Motorsport) rounded off the perfect weekend with a win in race two of the Formula BMW Europe Hungaroring weekend. From pole in both races he went on to take two wins and two fastest laps.

The Dane now leads the drivers’ championship by 11 points from Felipe Nasr (BR/Eurointernational) who came second again, while Sweden’s Timmy Hansen (Mü cke Motorsport) claimed his first podium with a strong third. Christensen made another good start and this time it was his team-mate, Hansen, from fourth on the grid who was second into the first corner.

However, Nasr was also there and as they came out of the corner the order was Christensen, Nasr and Hansen and it stayed that way to the chequered flag.   With overtaking opportunities few and far between the pack was close with drivers looking for any opportunity to slip by. One battle that was particularly fierce was between Rookies Jack Harvey (GB/Fortec Motorsport) and Robin Frijns (NL/Josef Kaufmann Racing). Harvey had started two places behind Frijns on the grid, but was in front by the end of lap one and behind Facu Regalia (ES/Josef Kaufmann Racing).

On lap seven Harvey got by the Spaniard and then on lap nine the Netherlands driver also took his opportunity to go through. Unfortunatley for Regalia when he spun on lap 11 he lost any chance of snatching these places back. The first of only two drivers to retire was Antonio Martinez (ES/Fortec Motorsport) who went off on lap two. Then on lap 12 David Mengesdorf (DE/Eifelland Racing) suddenly slowed while trying to catch up to Harvey and Frijns. He eventually made his way back into the pits.

1st - Round 10: Michael Christensen (DK/Mü cke Motorsport): “It has been just as I wanted – two pole positions and two wins. I cannot be more happy than I am. It was good because I managed to push from the start. Felipe was also very strong in the beginning, but then I managed to pull away. When I increased the gap I was a little bit more comfortable, but it is also fine to have some pressure in the beginning. I am happy for Timmy that he has made it onto the podium, but I would have been a little bit happier if he had overtaken Nasr!“

2nd  – Round 10: Felipe Nasr (BR/Eurointernational): “It was not the race I expected. You could see that Michael was much better. For me it was not a good race as I was too far behind him, but it is better to finish second than not. at all. Now he is in front of me in the championship. But we have three more race weekends before the finish of the championship so there are a lot of points in the game. It will be hard but I want to win the championship.“

3rd - Round 10: Timmy Hansen (Mü cke Motorsport): “This was really awesome, especially after yesterday when I had a bad race. It is good to have some revenge today. At the start I went from fourth to second before the first corner, but then Felipe came on the outside and that was the order we finished in. I caught up a little with him in the beginning, but then he pulled away in the middle and that was it. I was fast, but I did make a couple of mistakes.  I think without those mistakes I could even have been second. However, I am really happy with the podium and I want to say thank you to my team who have been really great.“
