Asia Racing Team in hunt for drivers’ title

2009 Asian Formula Renault series Team Champions’ Asia Racing Team is heading into the final round of the AFR Championship season at Zhuhai International Circuit (China). Angola’s Luis Sa Silva won the previous race in Zhuhai and moved atop the championship standings. He now holds a three-point lead over his rival with two 10-laps races to go.

After ten races the two drivers who remain in contention for the title are separated by just three points, the last event of the year has been set for a truly remarkable season-closer. Sa Silva knows that he can’t accommodate himself to a three point advantage when you still have sixty points in the table.

Speaking about the upcoming thrilling event, Sa Silva said, “After I regained the lead in the last race I want to keep it at all costs. I can’t afford to lose the opportunity to write my name in the history of Angolan and African motorsports. We gathered good data from the last meeting. I’m relax and confident and I know if I driver what I can the title shouldn’t run away from me”.

After his almost wheel-perfect weekend in Zhuhai in October - which saw him take a pair of podiums – Luca Ferigutti will be again supporting his team mate and eyeing a place on the podium: “I'm making progress in the car and I feel much more comfortable than in the beginning of the season. We will have to do our best for the next race and I am going to fight very, very hard. My main goal for the upcoming weekend will be to finish on the podium again and to help my teammate to clinch the drivers’ title.”

Excitement is in the air and a nail-biter of a round is guaranteed as the AFR Championship prepares to crown its 2009 Champion. Qualifying for Race 11 of the AFR Championship will be held on Saturday, November 14, with two, 10-lap Races on Sunday, November 15.
