Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholarship drivers Euan Hankey and Michael Meadows will race in the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race supporting the British Grand Prix in July.The step up to the Formula 1 support race at Silverstone comes as an additional reward for their success in the 2010 Scholarship and represents a fantastic opportunity to race in front of a huge crowd at their home Grand Prix.Porsche Cars GB will enter the two young drivers and the race weekend comes as a huge bonus to the main Scholarship prize of a £50,000 contribution towards their Carrera Cup GB for this season.“This is an amazing opportunity for Euan and Michael to gain experience in the Supercup,” said Marion Barnaby of Porsche Cars. “The Scholarship was created to try and help young drivers progress up the racing ladder in the footsteps of drivers like Richard Westbrook, who won the Carrera Cup GB and went on to win the Supercup.”Hankey and Meadows will drive the latest specification 911GT3 Cup car, and will have two days of testing ahead of the Silverstone race weekend.“I’m absolutely over the moon,” said Hankey (23), from Taunton in Somerset. “I just cannot believe that I’ll be racing at the British Grand Prix. It’s a massive deal for me and I’m optimistic of where we’ll be. When I entered the Carrera Cup Scholarship, I thought I’d get the money and a bit of support. But Porsche has extended the boundaries beyond belief and we’ve been spoilt rotten. The Supercup drive is incredible. I couldn’t ask for anything else.”Meadows is equally excited by the opportunity to compete at the pinnacle of Porsche one-make racing. “It’s an incredible deal; Marion and everyone at Porsche have done a fantastic job to get me this opportunity,” said the 22-year old racer from Banbury. “It’s going to be such hard work and we’re there to learn, but we get a couple of days in the car beforehand,” said Meadows. “I had no expectation to race in Supercup for several years yet, and now I’m doing the Silverstone race this year. It’s a big deal to get this as part of the Scholarship.”The Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup race will be one of the key support races at the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on Sunday 11 July.
