Josef Newgarden brought his Carlin GP3 car across the line in 23rd place, after a tough race in theF1 support series, despite another solid performance.
The 19 year-old American made a great start from 10th on the grid, and was up to a credibleseventh position by the end of lap one. Going into lap two, Newgarden challenged around theoutside to take another place, and looked like he was going to make the move stick. However, hesnatched a gear in the corner, and drifted wide. Re-joining the circuit, he made light contact withanother car, and unfortunately for Newgarden, he was forced into a spin.
Nevertheless, the American racer continued and finally finished in a respectable 23rd place.Speaking about the race, Newgarden said: “We’ve suffered all weekend from a power issue, andwe’ve just been down on speed. This has cost us around a second per lap, so while I’mdisappointed with the results, I know we can be quick. Almost everything is in place, we just needto fix this problem and we’ll be right up there. I’m enjoying this series – it’s so competitive which isgreat, and I’m looking forward to the next round.”
The GP3 Series now moves to Spain where the next round of the championship will be held inValencia on 26-27 June.
