Tough weekend for Bonham and Team Parker in Ginetta Junior

Adam Bonham provided the best result of the weekend on a difficult outing for Team Parker Racing in the Ginetta Junior Championship at Oulton Park.

Leicestershire racer Bonham took 10th place in the first of two races for the 14-17-year-old racers, who always provide some of the highlights of the British Touring Car Championship support package.

Bonham was battling for a top-six place in the second race when he got taken off by an errant rival, relegating him down the order to a disappointing 12th place at the finish.

After a tough qualifying session, Parker’s top driver in the championship, Nottinghamshire ace Chris Swanwick, was the team’s ‘guinea pig’ for a set-up change for race one. Swanwick battled through to chase Bonham, the pair finally taking 10th and 11th places. For Parker’s Monmouthshire racer Finlay Ractliffe it was a hugely disappointing race, alternator failure putting him out before the start.

Swanwick was in the wars in the second race. A clash at the first corner dislodged his bonnet catches, and a collision later on the first lap delayed him again. Worse still, the driver who Swanwick had collided with was then collected by the unfortunate Ractliffe, who found himself with nowhere to go. With his bonnet raising further and further, Swanwick was forced to pit by officials before finishing one lap down.

The team’s driver coach Danny Buxton said: “It was so unlucky for Adam. He was on for a really good result and then he got removed by another driver. We had such high hopes for the weekend and it turned out to be hugely disappointing, but the changes we made to Chris’s car worked well - it’s just a shame we didn’t get to show it.”

The Ginetta Junior Championship enjoyed live coverage of its second race from Oulton Park on ITV4. The series now moves to Croft in North Yorkshire for the next round, on June 19/20.
