Five Carrera Cup GB racers head for Le Mans

Five drivers from the Porsche Carrera Cup GB will race at Le Mans next weekend (12 June) in a support race to the famous 24-hour race. Tim Harvey, Ahmad Al Harthy, Glenn McMenamin, Alex Martin and Archie Hamilton will contest a race for the Porsche Carrera Cup France on the morning of the most famous motor race in the world. Over 40 Carrera Cup cars from across Europe will be on the grid.Harvey is the only one of the quintet to have previously raced at the 8-mile French track. He contested the 24-hour race four times from 1988, but has not been there since 1991. Hamilton, meanwhile, will honour his late grandfather Duncan, who won the 24-hour race in 1953.Tim Harvey: “It’s one of my all-time favourite tracks, with the overall speed and sense of history. I think we’ll be hitting around 185mph three times on every lap and that’ll be fantastic. This is a unique chance to race in front of 300,000 spectators and we’ve got to uphold British honour.”Ahmad Al Harthy: “It’s unbelievable. It’s an ambition of mine; one of the things in the sport I would love to do. I just want to enjoy the whole atmosphere. I will be the first Omani driver to race at Le Mans.”Glenn McMenamin: "It's the chance of a lifetime to drive the most famous circuit in the world. It's the high speed that makes it a completely different challenge."Alex Martin: “It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity and it’s going to be brilliant. Who wouldn’t look forward to racing at Le Mans? To race there one day has been on my wish list.”Archie Hamilton: “It’s a great opportunity to follow in the family tradition. The whole atmosphere and build up to the race will be amazing. It’s a great chance to learn the circuit and I’ve been flat out on the simulator since I knew we were going to Le Mans. I’ve never even been there to watch so just being there will be very special.”Harvey, Al Harthy, McMenamin and Hamilton will run with their regular Red Line Racing team, while Martin has joined Team Parker Racing for the event. The five cars will head for France straight from this weekend’s Oulton Park round of the Carrera Cup GB and will be back in action at Croft on 19/20 June for rounds nine and ten of the Carrera Cup GB.
