SOMERSET handed a debut to German star Christian Hefenbrock in their emphatic 58-34 win over Berwick on Friday.Hefenbrock, who started the season with Elite League Coventry before being injured, scored paid-ten to back up maximums from Aussie duo Cory Gathercole and Shane Parker.Hefenbrock said: "I was really nervous before the match, but the team spirit here at Somerset is unbelievable, as are the fans, so that really helped me. "I just wanted to do well for the team and help them to a victory, so to score eight points which included a race win was a good way to start for me and hopefully I can improve on that in next week's meeting."

EDINBURGH promoter Alex Harkess admitted the Monarchs had made hard work of their win over Redcar on Friday. The Scottish side went back to the top of the Premier League table with a 54-35 victory over the Bears, providing 13 of the 15 heat-winners - but also suffering a series of falls, disqualifications and engine failures.Harkess said: "The track was difficult on a hot day and we made heavy weather of it for a long time. That made it difficult to enjoy until we made the match safe near the end."

BIRMINGHAM boss Graham Drury says his side will travel to Rye House for the first leg of their Premier Trophy semi-final with confidence. The Brummies went down by just four points in the League at Hoddesdon earlier in the season, although Drury admits past results count for little when the teams clash on Sunday. He has once again booked club asset Paul Clews to guest for the injured Chris Kerr, with the Rockets aiming to build a lead ahead of Wednesday's second leg at Perry Barr.Drury said: "We have achieved nothing yet. We won our group comfortably to get to this stage but that will count for nothing if we fail to do ourselves justice at "It's the biggest meeting of the season and we were pleased with the win against Stoke in mid-week, it sets us up nicely."
