Brookes wins both Superstock races at Silverstone MotoGP Australian looks forward to competing in World Superbikes on the new track
Josh Brookes, competing in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000 Championship at Silverstone’s MotoGP event last weekend (18-20 June), took two historic victories on the new Grand Prix Circuit. Brookes was the first ever rider to win on the newly configured track during Saturday’s Superstock race, then battled to the front of the field on Sunday to claim a double victory at the circuit’s inaugural bike event.
Following his win on Saturday, Brookes watched the start of the MotoGP race from the air, taking in aerial views of the circuit by helicopter. Commenting on the new Silverstone layout, Brookes said, “It’s great; it’s spot on, exactly what a proper international circuit should be. There were places to overtake on nearly every corner of the circuit because the track is so wide, you can set up two to three corners before and then plan a pass on pretty much any corner on the circuit.
“There are other tracks where there is really only one place to make a move, and when you do it’s a really desperate move, whereas here [at Silverstone] it’s possible to make a lot more passes. I think it’s brilliant.”
HM Plant Honda rider Brookes is confirmed to race twice more at Silverstone this year, as a ‘wild card’ entry in the only British round of the FIM Superbike World Championship (30 July-1 August) and as part of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship which heads to the Northamptonshire track on 24-26 September.
Talking about his return to Silverstone for World Superbikes, Brookes said, “I’m really looking forward to it now that I’ve had some track time and know what the circuit is like. It’s something to be excited about because I know I’m coming to a great track.”
